SA Rappers Who Broke Away From Their Record Labels: Being signing to a renowned record label has been known to be the dream of every upcoming artiste. To every artiste, being signed to a record label is the beginning of a great future in the music industry including the other benefits that comes with it.
Unfortunately, when issues arise between the record label and the artiste the best solution is to terminate their contract, especially when the situation cannot be resolved.
Here is a list of SA rappers who had a fall out with their record labels mainly on the grounds of mistreatment which led to them terminating their relationship.
1. A-Reece
His exit from the Ambitiouz Entertainment opened the eyes of fans to the ill fate being suffered by SA hip hop artistes. A-Reece complained that he was being paid less than 20k considering his talents and the amount of bookings he gets as a hot rapper.
2. Emtee
In August 2019, Emtee announced that he was leaving his label Ambitiouz Entertainment after series of legal fights between him and the record label.
3. Nasty C
Nasty C was signed to Mabala Records and tied to FreeWorlds Music. After his exit from the record label, Nasty C established his own record label named Tall Racks Records in 2018.
4. Fifi Cooper
Fifi Cooper left Ambitiouz Entertainment because she was being underpaid for her work. Despite the fact that she was making money for the record label, she had nothing to show for it.
5. Tshego
Tshego left Family Tree Records because he needed to be in control of a lot of things in his career and needed a dedicated team to help him achieve his goals.
6. Yanga Chief
Yanga Chief left Da L.E.S’s record label because his album was not ready at the agreed-upon time. Presently, he is an independent artist co-signed at the Universal music and also signed to JR’s record label.
7. Duncan Skuva
Duncan left Spethu after a fallout with his then manager, Ngane. He accused Ngane of taking over his Facebook account and asking for R90k in return after the fallout. He is currently signed to Afrotainment.
8. Shane Eagle
He was briefly signed under JR label but he left to become an independent artist.
9. Zakwe
Zakwe reportedly left Native Rhythms because they failed to market his self-titled album.
10. Yung Swiss
He is the most recent artiste to officially declare himself an independent artiste after a bitter fall out with his record label, Playground Records.
